Timber
Pacific Red Cedar from the Kispiox Valley is the timber of choice for the majority of Kispiox Barn’s construction projects.
The sole timber provider for all projects is Dependable Lumber, Don and Statia Messier. Don and Statia own and operate a woodlot and sawmill with old fashion values.
Respect for the timber, respect for the land, and respect for the locals, are the priorities when it comes to harvesting the timber. Selective cut with small machines and some horse skidding are the chosen practices for their woodlot.
Some areas of the woodlot have just received their third harvesting in 100 years, and still a lush forest canopy remains.
The ghosts of ancestors are thick in the forest, their physicality is visible in the timber itself.
With special care these signs from the past, from the last peoples to truly live from the land in the Kispiox Valley, are transformed and brought to life in Kispiox Barn’s unique Pacific Northwest Barn style construction.
